Mariella Novotny was born in London in 1942. Her father was born in Czechoslovakia. According to Christine Keeler, her real name was Stella Capes but she changed it to Mariella Novotny because it "had a more whiplash ring to it." She also claimed that she was the niece of the former President of Czechoslovakia. After the death of her father she became a striptease dancer to support her widowed mother. Novotny also worked as a prostitute in London.In 1959 Novotny began a relationship with Horace Dibben, a wealthy antique dealer and nightclub owner. He was 36 years her senior.
