Martin Brooks - Biography
Martin was born in the Bronx, New York. His family moved to Wilkes-Barre, PA when he was ten years old. He became a Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division assigned to the South Pacific during World War II. After the war ended, he attended Penn State University, which has since honored him with the Distinguished Artist Award. Martin also attended Erwin Piscator`s Dramatic Workshop of the New School for Social Research. While there, he won the Off-Broadway Best Actor Award in Wolfgang Borchert`s "Outside the Door". Among his eight Broadway credits, include Arthur Miller`s adaptation of "Enemy of the People", with Frederic March. He received the Theatre World Award and the Donaldson Award for John Steinbeck`s "Burning Bright". He also appeared in John Van Druten`s "I Am A Camera" for which he received a Tony nomination. During his Broadway career, he had the extreme privilege of working with some of the greatest First Ladies of the Broadway Theatre ... Katherine Cornell, Helen Hayes, Julie Harris, Ruth Gordon, Geraldine Page and Uta Hagen, among others. Martin moved to Los Angeles, where he became a Practitioner of Religious Science in 1990, tutored by Rev. Carlo DiGiovana. He continued his acting career by performing in many stage productions and TV series including "The Six Million Dollar Man", "The Bionic Woman", "Dallas", "Knots Landing" and "Hunter". He has also produced, directed and taught acting. He is a lifetime member of the Actor`s Studio and a member of Theatre West, and now directs most of his energies to writing. His novel, "Epitaph for Danny Brown", is soon to be published. His play, "Ever Beginning", aka "Joe & Flo", was optioned by director Mark Rydell for Broadway and several of his screenplays are being considered for production.
