How to get a death certificate in Missouri

Vital records were kept on a statewide basis beginning in August, 1909. The city of St. Louis, however, began recording deaths in 1850 and births in 1870. It is estimated that about 60% compliance was met in these earlier recordings for that city. Marriage records are recorded with the county Recorder of Deeds.
