Spencer Smith - Biography
Smith was born in Colorado, and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and attended Bishop Gorman High School with former band mate Ryan Ross. Spencer Smith is best known as the drummer for alternative rock band Panic! At the Disco.
Smith grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He there met his life-long best friend George Ryan Ross, later guitarist of Panic! At the Disco, when Ross rode by on his "tricycle" while Smith and his siblings were playing with a fisher price golf set. The two were best friends as children and teenages, together forming predecessor bands Pet Salamander and The Summer League. They later teamed up with Brendon Urie to form Panic! At The Disco. Despite the band's 2009 split, Smith still plays in Panic! At the Disco, which now consists solely of Smith and Urie.
In 2011, the band's new line-up proved their lasting commercial success with a Billboard-gracing album entitled Vices and Virtues, on which Smith played a vital part in songwriting. Spencer has been with long-time girlfriend Haley Heckenberg since 2005 and is alternately rumored to be engaged and on break from her, however evidence seems more indicative of the former.
On August 2, 2013, he released an open letter to his fans, coming clean about his battle with alcohol and prescription pills. On August 7, 2013, Brendon Urie announced via the band's website that Spencer would no longer be taking part in the tour, stating that "He is away getting the help that he needs." On April 2, 2015, Spencer announced his departure from Panic! at the Disco.
