Steven V. Silver - Biography

Steven is one of the most sought after cinematographers today. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, ASC, and the Director’s Guild of America and has worked with every major network to develop new looks for their new shows. Over the years he has been featured in prominent cinematography magazines including ICG, 3P, Sound and Picture, American Cinematographers, Highdef, and Incamera, as well as in Kodak’s “On Film” campaign. He has been nominated for seven Emmy awards and in 2007, 2011, and 2012 took top honors for “Two and a Half Men.” He has been honored at several events hosted by Panavision and Kodak, where he has been the recipient of five Kodak Vision Awards.Steven V. Silver began his career as a camera technician and film student in 1982. He was hired by Howard A. Anderson, ASC to assist on special effects and second unit cinematography. In 1985, he was accepted into the Camera Guild. After working five years as a freelance first-camera assistant on commercials, features, and music videos, Steven camera assisted on the pilot for “Murphy Brown.” He moved up to ‘A’ camera operator after the first season and remained with the show for the next nine years. During this time he also held permanent operating positions on other series including “Doctor, Doctor,” “Room For Two,” and “Caroline in the City.”While working on “Caroline in the City,” Steven met Executive Producer Dottie Zicklin and her partner, Chuck Lorre. Impressed with Steven’s work, he became the Director of Photography on their new series, “Dharma and Greg.” During hiatus from the series, Steven continued his cinematography work for his friend Howard A. Anderson, ASC where, among other shows, he shot additional photography for “Jerry Maguire,” “Dumb and Dumber,” and “Space Jam.” Currently, Steven is the Director of Photography on the #1 and #2 sitcoms airing today, “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory.” He has just completed production on “Mike and Molly,” which already has a coveted spot on CBS’ Monday night line up.Over the past nine years, Steven has shot 31 pilots and more than 250 hours of television that are currently being aired on network television in first run or syndication.
