Manuela de Freitas - Biography

Manuela de Freitas is a Portuguese actress who was born on September 4, 1940. She is known for her work on O Lugar do Morto (1984), Fragments of an Alms-Film (1972) and Ninguém Duas Vezes (1984).
In the theater, Manuela de Freitas began at the Casa da Comedy Theater, under the direction of Fernando Amado. She worked with Mário Viegas and starred Medeia (2006), from Euripeds, staged by Fernanda Lapa at the D. Maria II National Theater. She was the founder of " The Commune - Research Theater " in 1972, together with João Mota, Carlos Paulo, Melim Teixeira and Francisco Pestana.

Manuela de Freitas has twice received the Bordalo Prize, both as an actress in the "Theater" category. The first, the Prize of the Press (1969), as "Revelation Prize" given by the House of the Press, in 1970, that also also distinguished in that occasion, in the same category the actors Carmen Dolores and João Perry, the directors Jorge Listopad (The Dance da Morte) and Norberto Barroca (Fando and Lis) and the author Alves Redol posthumously. Two "Special Merit Awards" were also awarded to the Scenic Groups of the Faculties of Law andLetters from the University of Lisbon.
The second, the Press Prize (1971), awarded for his performance in The End was shared with actress Gloria de Matos (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf) and delivered at a 1970 ceremony where the actors Rui de Carvalho were also honored, António Montez and Maria Vitória (Revelation), directors Jorge Listopad (The End) and Carlos Avilez (Ivone, Princess of Burgundy) and set designer Rui Mesquita (The End).
