Mike Sheppard Jr. - Biography

Mike Sheppard Jr. is the son of Mike Sheppard Sr. Mike "Shep" Sheppard Sr. (April 12, 1936 – April 6, 2019) was an American college baseball coach, mainly as the head coach at Seton Hall from 1973 to 2000 and 2002 to 2003. In 30 seasons as head coach, he led Seton Hall to 10 NCAA Tournaments and two College World Series. He had an overall record of 998-540-11.
Sheppard, Jr. (600-179-4), one of, if not the most, respected scholastic baseball coach in the state, was embracing a man, his father, who won 998 games (998-540-11) in 31 years at Seton Hall University. Mike Sheppard, Sr. is still a man who makes grown men stop in their tracks and willingly bow in his presence. Junior had played for his dad, Shep, Sr. at Seton Hall University and went on to professional ball.

Junior coached one year at West Orange, sporting an 11-11-1 record in 1986. "He's never had a losing season," said Shep, Sr. "Our whole existence and happiness is in watching our kids, Michael, Johnny and Robbie, win games," said the old Marine. "Johnny won his 300th this year at Mo-Beard and Robbie won his 200th at the University," he reminded us.
That's more than 2,000 for the family. That family extends down to Mike Sheppard III, Shep, Jr.'s son and the ace of his pitching staff, and Ty Blankmeyer, his nephew, second baseman and leadoff hitter. "I've been around this program since I was a kid, a bat boy and now a player," said Shep III. "I'm excited about the 600th. He's worked hard for it. I know there will be plenty more."
