Mhairi Calvey - Biography
Mhairi Isla Calvey was born in Glasgow in 1988. Her mother Dominique Sicker trained as a Jewellery Designer. Her father Chris Calvey works as a Photographer, the couple divorced when she was age 2.Mhairi spent her childhood on the Isle Of Arran in the West Coast of Scotland. Related to the actor Wolf Kahler acting is in the blood which meant Mhairi was a film buff from an early age.At the age of 5, Mhairi made her movie debut playing the role of 'Young Murron' in Mel Gibson's film Braveheart. Shortly after filming Mhairi returned to school and started on the stage performing in several theatres in the UK.When Mhairi was age 11 they moved to North Yorkshire, England where Dominique met Mhairi's step father Tim Bielby who works as a joiner. Mhairi suffered from bullying a lot at high school and she seeked refuge in acting roles.At York college, Theatre Director Sam Beswick spotted Mhairi and cast her as the role of Nina in the play 'The Good Doctor'.Mhairi spent two years training and performing with The Forthwall Theatre company.While she was at college Mhairi was reunited with actors James Robinson and Andrew Weir(Braveheart) and 2006 Mhairi flew to New York to take part in the event Dressed to Kilt as a guest actor along side Sean Connery and Brian Cox which aired on American T.V. later that year Mhairi was invited to do the same production in L.A where she worked with Linda Hamilton and Ashley Jensen.At age 18, Mhairi was accepted and given a full Scholarship to attend the prestigious Guildford School of Acting. During this time she made an appearance on the BBC's Scotland On Screen with Alan Cumming. Mhairi graduated in late 2010. Four months after graduation she got her first lead role in the movie Any Minute Now and is continuing to shoot movies in the UK and abroad.
