Barbro Hedström has studied at Camberwell and Chelsea Schools of Art in London from 1971 to 1974, at Konstfack in Stockholm, Umprum College of Arts and Crafts for Professor Stanislav Libenský in Prague and the Royal College of Art in Stockholm and short courses in glass blowing at Orrefors glassworks.
Barbro Hedström signs both pictorial and abstract, both portraits and landscapes or commentary images about the environment and human condition, in materials such as carbon and pencil, paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor, as well as with video, photo and glass. More recently, she has been working increasingly with ink on paper and canvas and on glass with acrylic and oil. As a sculptor she works in welded steel, clay, wood, plaster, plastic, metal, bronze, granite, marble and concrete. Her themes reflect the inner and outer state of the human being and the relation male / female where the female experience takes a natural place.
