Christian Altenburger - Biography
Christian Altenburger (* 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian violinist. Christian Altenburger studied during the school years at the Vienna Music University . After graduating, he started on the recommendation of Zubin Mehta's study in the class of Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. His debut as a soloist, he was in the Vienna Musikverein in 1976. Other engagements as a soloist in concerts followed famous orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, James Levine, Zubin Mehta and Wolfgang Sawallisch. Altenburg is a regular participant in international chamber music festivals such as Santa Fe, Kuhmo, Stavanger, Pablo Casals Festival and organizer of various chamber music projects . From 1990 to 2001 taught Altenburger as professor of violin at the Musikhochschule in Hannover , since 2001 he has been a professor at the Vienna Music University.
