She is known for her work in Broadway theatre productions such as That Face, Stunning, and the Tony Award-winning musical Once. She is also known for playing Tracy McConnell ("The Mother") on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother from 2013 to 2014, and Teresa Petrillo Belfort in the 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street. She has won a Grammy Award and has been nominated for a Tony Award.
