Laura Goodwin - Biography

Born in Pinner, Laura grew up training in most genres of dance but excelling in ballet and joining the junior school of the Royal Ballet Company at the early age of just 12. Her talents also extended to theatre and acting and as a child and young adult she appeared frequently on both the stage and television. Laura has worked in various roles but perhaps most notably as 'Emily' in The sunchild with Twiggy & James Fox; 'Maria' in The Legend of Crystalstone with Anna Massey, Brigit Forseyth & Helen Ryan, 'Ermentrude' in Cristabel with Elizabeth Hurley and featuring in both The Royal Ballets Nutcracker at Covent Garden and in Jim Henson's Nursery Rhymes series to mention but a few. As a teenager Laura was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, however continued to train in dance & theatre and perform.Laura attended university and completed a 4 year degree in Hospitality Management focusing on Catering and Hotels. She spent some of this time training and working in Mallorca Spain where she first experienced Salsa dance. She started to attend salsa lessons and trained with various renowned teachers. She became a manager in a popular and extremely busy salsa bar and upon her return to England, she began teaching salsa for numerous local salsa companies.Laura added to her qualifications becoming a QTS Junior School teacher enabling her to provide salsa workshops in schools, clubs and colleges. She also become a director of a Middlesex-based recruitment company specialising in commodity traders for city banks and invested in property across the UK. In 2008 she bought her own private nursery and pre-prep school which she grew, along with her partner into an outstanding educational institution, re-investing in small schools that offered a superior quality of education and investment in pupils.The founder of salsasalsa; Lady Laura Goodwin-Freeman, set up and began the salsasalsa brand in 2006. The aim was to provide a quality group of teachers, dedicated to salsa, to entertain at all types of events.Laura has developed great relationships with reputable salsa companies and regularly appears as a guest teacher for them or provides workshop events in association with these companies. She also has been involved in the finding and training of new salsa teachers whilst working alongside other dance companies and associations to try to improve the standards of salsa teaching. Laura regularly teaches in schools and has helped to introduce Salsa Dancing into the curriculum. In 2008 she performed at her largest event to date; The Rise Festival in Finsbury Park London. Invited by the London Mayors office in association with 'The Big Dance', Laura performed to over 10,000 people and taught her largest class to date. The audience were invited to join in the largest salsa class in London!Laura has utilised her dance training, teaching qualifications, hospitality and event management skills to help her become a well known and respected salsa event organiser and performer. She has taught and performed at corporate parties, weddings and health spas, charity events, festivals as well as maintaining her links with local salsa companies and is also a partner in the successful North-London based company; Salsa Revolution.Laura now teaches both Cuban and New York style salsa as well as Merengue Bachatango and Bachata to both children and adults and continues to fundraise for the Diabetic Association, Macmillan Cancer Research Charity and Watford Peace Hospice. She manages both corporate and private events through SalsaSalsa and provides salsa clubs and lessons through Salsa Revolution with her salsa partner DJ Chunky (www.salsarevolution.co.uk). With ateam of 10 salsa teachers, Salsa Revolution has now become one of the largest and best known Salsa Companies in the South East of England.
