Pyotr Merkuryev - Biography
Pyotr Vasilyevich Merkuryev-Meyerhold was born in 1943, in Tomsk province, Siberia, USSR. His father, named Vasili Merkuryev, was a famous Russian film star and stage actor. His mother, named Irina Vsevolodovna Meyerhold, was the daughter of legendary director Vsevolod Meyerhold. Young Pyotr Merkuryev was brought up in a special intellectual environment in the family of his famous parents, and received an excellent education. He made his film debut in 1958, in musical film `Nevskie Melodii`, and made his actor-father proud of his acting. Pyotr Merkuryev-Meyerhold played over 50 roles in film and on television.He worked with such directors as Mark Donskoy, Sergei Bondarchuk, Elem Klimov, Eldar Ryazanov, Aleksei German, and others. He made a remarkable portrayal of his grandfather Vsevolod Meyerhold in film `Ya - Aktrisa`, where his partner was Natalya Sayko. Pyotr Merkuryev-Meyerhold is also known as a journalist and musical critic. Since 1989 he has been a staff writer for the "Muzykalnoe Obozrenie" (Music Revue) newspaper in Russia. He is currently living and working in Russia.
