And even though gymnast Sashia Bingham is only 10, she is brimming with hope of representing Australia at the next Olympic Games after Japan 2020.Sashia trains 25 hours week, is a multiple Tasmanian champion, and holds one New Zealand title in uneven bars.Not bad for a kid who took up gymnastics two years ago to do better cartwheels with her friends at Lenah Valley Primary.“It would mean a lot if I got to go to the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games,” she said.“When I first started my aim was to go to the Olympics, but it’s a long way away.”Sashia’s home away from home is the Hobart PCYC where she is coached by Alyssa Gardner.“Training so much can be pretty tiring but it’s fun. I seem to spent more time with Alyssa than my parents,” Sashia said.Sashia is too young for national championships and must wait until she reaches level 10, which is not far given she’s already at level eight.“It’s very unusual for them to progress that quickly,” Gardner said.“She is about to be the first Tasmanian to compete in women’s artistic gymnastics at the Australian Classic, which is the elite levels championships in Geelong this weekend.“Following that she’s going to the Australian Institute of Sport. She has been invited to the Team Future camp for girls aged 9-13 years. They’ve got 100 athletes coming from around Australia and Sashia is ranked in the top six.“It’s very exciting for Tasmania to have an up-and-coming star like Sashia.
