Tommy King - Biography
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Tommy King is emerging as one of the city’s top new artists. In high school, Tommy spent his mornings studying jazz at the Hamilton Music Academy, his afternoons surfing at LA beaches, and his evenings gigging at every major LA venue, from the Troubadour to the Hollywood Bowl. By the time Tommy had graduated high school he had already been working in the studio for producers like David Foster and Trevor Horn. Soon after, he landed a gig playing keyboards in the house band on NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly.” Now, at the age of 24, Tommy is an in-demand session musician, writing and recording for a wide array of artists including Macy Gray, Snoop Dogg, and Maroon 5. Tommy’s musicianship is so well-respected in Hollywood that it is commonplace for him to play in LA clubs, backing up artists such as John Mayer and Roy Hargrove. Recently, Tommy returned from a college tour across the U.S. with Maroon 5. He joined the tour as a secondary keyboardist for Jesse Carmichael and background vocalist for Adam Levine. However, it is Tommy’s work as a solo artist that sets him apart and reveals his true contribution to the LA music scene.Tommy King is an artist unlike any other. His sound is unique, yet it embodies a character that is reminiscent of all that is great about Hollywood - both past and present. Inspired by the songwriting of Brian Wilson and textured throughout with hints of Lennon / McCartney, his debut solo album, “The Doheny Days,” is a collection of material that features him in his own light as a singer / songwriter. The Doheny Days is a true independent record. Written and produced by Tommy himself, this well crafted record is filled with strong hooks and melodies, as well as, intricate harmonies delivering a sophisticated blend of pop, rock and soul. As one would expect from a true working musician who has shared the stage with many of the world’s top artists, Tommy’s live shows are exhilarating. Surrounded by a band made up of the greatest young talent in the industry, Tommy is free to push the boundaries of pop music. He is an artist of limitless creativity, yet he remains true to the roots of great American Rock & Roll and it is his unmistakable energy and musicianship that makes his live show so unique.
