David Ogrin (II)Composer | SoundtrackHOMEBIOTHEATRE MUSICSONGSNEWSIn his pre-theatre days, Dave worked as a producer, writer, musician and engineer with such talent as The Beastie Boys, Grand Master Flash, Paul Simon, Mick Jagger, and Run DMC. Along with Public Enemy and Branford Marsalis, Dave worked on the soundtrack for Spike Lees film HE GOT GAME. Dave’s compositions were in such films as Joe Eszterhas’s BURN HOLLYWOOD, BURN and Boaz Yakin’s FRESH. In the musical theatre world, co-wrote the rock n roll musical space fantasy, WILD WOMEN OF PLANET WONGO. Wongo was a Richard Rodgers Award Finalist, was selected for the YES Festival in Cincinnati, was part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and had its world premiere production at the Red Barn Theatre in Key West, Florida in 2009. Dave co-wrote the rock n roll musical women-in-prison send-up, HELL HOLE HONEYS. Honeys was selected for presentation at the Eugene O’Neill Music Theater Conference, was awarded the TRU New Voices Award in New York City where it was presented at the Players Theatre in New York and received its world premiere production at the Alleyway Theatre in Buffalo, New York in 2009. His musical THE LEGEND OF JULIE TAYMOR OR THE MUSICAL THAT KILLED EVERYBODY, co-written with Travis Ferguson, was performed at the Fringe Festival in New York City in September 2011. Dave also co-wrote the musical MATA HARI, presented at a workshop at the University of Western Michigan in 2009 and again in New York City in 2012. In 2014, Dave was a finalist in the Ken Davenport Song Writing Competition(see SONGS). Dave was selected to participate in the Raw Impressions Musical Theatre Marathon at the Flea Theatre and the New Dramatists Composer/Librettist Studio, both in New York City. He is dramatist guild member.
