Denis Akiyama - Biography
Denis Akiyama was born on May 28, 1952 in Toronto, Canada as Denis Van Akiyama. He was an actor, known for Pixels (2015), Repo Men (2010) and Johnny Mnemonic (1995). He was married to Danielle O'Connor Akiyama.
Born and raised in Toronto, Akiyama received a BA in Psychology from York University and began working in child care before deciding to pursue his dream of acting. He studied at George Brown College, and began a decades-long career as a performer. His film career began with a number of small roles in the 1980s, and in the 1990s; he performed in Miss Saigon on Broadway and in Toronto.
He also performed in a number of important Asian Canadian plays such as Song for a Nisei Fisherman by Philip Kan Gotanda, Naomi’s Road by Sally Han, M.J. Kang’s Dreams of Blonde & Blue, and Hiro Kanagawa’s The Tiger of Malaya. He also continued his film career, performing in both live action and animated works including Johnny Mnemonic, The Adventures of Tintin, X-Men, and Sailor Moon. More recent credits include 12 Monkeys, Pixels, and Suits. (June 2017)
