Joey Jackson - Biography
Joey Jackson was born and raised in the Bronx, attending elementary school at St. Francis of Rome from 1st to 8th grade, and attending Iona Prep High School in New Rochelle thereafter. Upon graduating from High School he attended college at SUNY Brockport– where he participated in the honors program, was a resident assistant, directed the student run Legal Information Service, was an on-campus re...presentative, and served as student body president. While in college, he also interned in Albany with the NYS Education Department and participated in the Washington Semester Program in the Capitol Hill office of Congressman Charles B. Rangel. He also gave the commencement address on behalf of his graduating class.Thereafter, he worked for the Mayor of NYC in the Office of Special Projects, working closely with the NYC Council on quality of life issues. He then moved to Albany where he worked for the Speaker of the NYS Assembly as an Analyst on the Veterans Affairs and Housing Committees, editing, drafting and evaluating legislation. While in Albany he earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from SUNY Albany’s Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy.Upon completion of his MPA, he attended Hofstra Law School, where he was an editor on the Hofstra Labor Law Journal. He was also a member of the National Moot Court and National Trial teams as well as BLSA’s Frederick Douglas Moot Court team. While at Hofstra, he also interned at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, served as a Summer Associate with the law firm of Nixon Hargrave Devons and Doyle, and was elected Graduation Speaker by his peers.After graduating from Hofstra, he was appointed to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan. As a Prosecutor, he secured an assault conviction against an NFL football player who severely injured a Night Club patron, presented numerous cases to the grand jury, assisted in a murder prosecution, and successfully handled a number of hearings and trials. He also received the Distinguished Public Service Award from the NYC Lawyers Association.He thereafter joined the law firm of Koehler & Isaacs, LLP., where he is currently senior trial counsel-- specializing in criminal defense and labor and employment litigation. He has won acquittals in major criminal cases in Nassau, Suffolk, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx-- the most recent being an Attempted Murder Acquittal in Queens Supreme Court in October, 2009 and a Vehicular Manslaughter Acquittal in Nassau County Court in February, 2010. Additionally, he has defended numerous union members against employee misconduct allegations, thereby sparing them from termination, suspension and other forms of discipline.He is also an adjunct Professor at Monroe College, which has campuses in New Rochelle and the Bronx-- where he teaches Civil Rights and Business Law.
