José Reinoso - Biography

José Reinoso Composer - Born 1971 - Born in Carmelo, Uruguay, in 1971. He began his musical activity at age 14. At 18 he moved to Montevideo. Where he studied classical piano and harmony and improvisation. In 1994 he received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA). Where studied with Hal Crook, Ray Santisi, Joanne Brackeen, Charlie Banacos, haste 1996. After that returns home working with major figures such as Nicolás Reinoso there, Osvaldo Fatorusso, Hector Bingert, Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Facundo Bergalli, Chico Novarro, among others. Also made several tours to Argentina, Brazil and Europe, performing in major festivals with the Meier Group (Montreaux Jazz Festival, Vienne Jazz, Joan Les Pins Jazz Festival). In 1999 he moved to Barcelona, where he currently resides. This city stands out his participation as pianist Marcelo Mercadante and his “Quinteto Porteño” Raynald Colom Quintet, Marc Ayza Quartet, Alfonso Carrascosa “Segundo Conclave” Gardelia “donde canta el zorzal...” Big Band Terrassa, Perico Sambeat Sextet and numerous collaborations with other leading local and foreign musicians as Horacio Fumero, Michael Mossman Phillipe, John Nugent & Big Band Terrassa, Mayte Martin, Luis Salinas, Gustavo Bergalli, Perico Sambeat.Between 1999 and 2002 has toured in Turkey, France, Uruguay, Denmark, Switzerland and Spain.In early 2001 he founded his own group: Repique, a South American Jazz project consists of three major figures of jazz in Spain: Gorka Benitez, Aldo Caviglia and Rai Ferrer. Precisely, “South American Jazz” is the title of the first CD of José Reinoso & Repique, recorded in September 2001 in Barcelona.This project makes an important tour in Switzerland in July 2002, and participated in the Montreaux Jazz Festival and Jazz Parade Fribourg.He has won several awards: the 2006 Latin Grammy nomination for “Best Instrumental Album” Award for “Best Soundtrack” the Malaga Film Festival 2007 for the film “Tuya Siempre” and the nomination from the Academy of Music Madrid as “Best Arranger” for the song “Mi niña Lola” by Concha Buika.He recorded with musicians like Andrés Calamaro and Luis Salinas, is musical director of Jose Luis Perales, composed and recorded the soundtrack for the film “We all love to Gloria Cole”. Accompanied by Antonio Serrano, the album called “Zamba Nueva” and is currently working on a recording of music by Astor Piazzolla with Paco de Lucia. He has three albums to his credit: “South American jazz”, “Candombe Influenciado”and the last one “Tango Jam”(2010).
