Andrew Farah - Biography

An exceptionally gifted student, he received a bachelor`s degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan before going onto to complete a master’s degree in electrical science.Equipped with a stellar education, Andrew Farah began working with General Motors in 1984, where he distinguished himself as an engineer in the Buick electrical/electronics group. He stayed with the company for a short period before accepting an offer to join Johnson Controls Inc. where he worked as a manager in the company’s battery division.Farah eventually found his way back to General Motors, where he was named the engineering group manager for propulsion on the EV-1, the first modern production electric vehicle from a major automaker. Despite the vehicle’s immense potential, the EV-1 was discontinued after three years in 1999, and the car was subsequently removed from the road by General Motors in 2003. He was given the opportunity to work on another electric vehicle in August 2007, when he was named the chief engineer on the Chevrolet Volt. The Chevy Volt will come out some time in 2010.
