Jim Meads - Biography

Going Home:In Jim Meads new and final book the legendary Jim Meads captures the atmosphere and camaraderie of hunting; its characters, its hounds, the frightening fences and above all its tradition. Jim Meads is one of the most famous hunting photographers and Going Home portrays hunts in the UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA. He is also one of the most endearing persons in the life of Sylvia York who both share a love of writing and extreme photography. Misty Morning members provided a grand showing at the book signing of Jim Meads’ newest book, Going Home. This is the 5th volume in his wonderful collection of hunting books. We are very proud that Jim selected a photo from one of our hunts as his cover shot — an ultimate honor for any Hunt — and this is especially exciting because it is the first American pack he has featured on the cover of one of his books. The photo was, indeed, of us gathering hounds to head back to the trailers, and the setting was a cypress swamp during an unusually long Florida draught, as evidenced by the waterline on the trunks and cypress knees. Besides a spectacular array of hunting photos from all over the world, the book contains two very touching and personal forwards. One is written by HRH Prince Charles, who has known Jim his entire life; and the other is by Mason Lampton, MFH Midland Foxhounds, and past president of the MFHA. The festive event was held at Marion Maggiolo’s Horse Country store in Warrenton, v*rginia, and there was a line looping throughout the store the entire evening, with folks anxious to meet Jim & have him personally inscribe their copies. It was amazing to watch Jim in action, quickly recognizing pretty much every single person and not only remembering names, but names of horses, spouses, various events, grand-kids, achievements, hounds, dates, specific details of hunts, hound shows, parties, and innumerable occasions! It was unbelievable!
