Linda Lawrence - Biography
Miss Lawrence is known in rockdom as the once love/muse of Stone Brian Jones and Scottish folkie Donovan. Linda Lawrence was born in 1947 to a normal middle-class contractor’s family in Windsor, Berkshire. As a teen in the early 60s, Linda was into jazz. “I was what they called a Beatnik,” Linda says, ” and I hated pop and Cliff Richard and all that.”Her entrance into the rock girlfriend role came in 1962 when Linda met Brian at the age of 15 (he was 20), when the Stones were just a local band in the London area and Linda used to go and dance in the audience. It was Brian's use of the slide guitar and her dancing that attracted the two to each other and instantly started seeing each other. Two years later in 1964, Linda would give birth to their son Julian, but it was shortly later that same year that Brian and her would slowly separate as the Stones got bigger and Brian became more of a 'rockstar' always traveling and partying (as well as wooing model Anita Pallenberg.) In 1970, Linda would become wife of another popular '60s musician, Donovan. The two had met 4 years earlier (when Don became friends with Brian) and he would continue to randomly meet Linda occasionaly through out the decade while she modeled in London. During those years, Donovan had tried repeatedly to court Linda, but she was reluctant as she still felt some attachment to Brian for Julian's sake, even though the feelings were mutual. During a short time the late '60s, Linda and Julian would live in California, where for a period they shared an apartment with fellow rock girlfriend Catherine James and her son. It wasn't until a year after Brian's death that Linda gave into to her attraction to Donovan and create a marriage that has lasted to this day. After marrying Linda, Donovan officially adopted Julian as his son (and took his surname Leitch), and the couple also have two daughters, Astrella Celeste and Oriole Nebula. Linda has been Donovan's muse for over 40 years and songs such as ‘Catch the Wind’, ‘Sunshine Superman’, ‘Hampstead Incident,’ ‘Young Girl Blues’ , ‘Legend of a Girl Child Linda’ and ‘Lalena’ were written for her.
