Rob Cavestany - Biography

Rob was never an unfamiliar person to the guitar - a mere 9 years old when he seized his fathers' acoustic that always seemed to be around the house. That acoustic found itself a new institution in Rob's hands. At the age of 11, Rob began taking lessons on a "C" Series Electric guitar. It was then he discovered the true meaning of passion and that he could express the reflections of his surroundings and life experiences through music. At 13 years of age and armed with a Gibson Flying V, ambition called on Rob to form his first band with 3 of his own cousins, and Death Angel was born. In 1989 Rob designed his own custom signature guitar with Grover Jackson. This has been his main live axe in every Death Angel show since. 2009 will see this guitar finally available to the public, known as the "Rob Cavestany Signature Death Angel Custom" made by Jackson Guitars. Rob is still actively pursuing Death Angel's career however he has always had a passion for the acoustic guitar. He had been writing and playing acoustic for as long as he's known how to play and it just made sense that he should put out his own solo project, titled "Lines on the Road", a totally self-produced album recorded in his home studio. Released in August of 2007, "Lines on the Road" is not a metal project, yet instead more alternative, geared for a different vibe, and radio friendly at that. Crossing over genres, "Lines on the Road" is reminiscent of a time ago in the seventies, on the streets of San Francisco-- where one could experience an abundance of musical culture thriving in an atmosphere created for such. Rob's musical influences range from the guitar playing prowess of Randy Rhoads, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Uli Jon Roth, Akira Takasaki, Jimmy Page, Brian May, Neil Schon, Carlos Santana, Pepe Romero, David Gilmour and Michael Schenker to the songwriting and vocal talent of Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Queen, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath... to name a few! 2008 saw the release of "Killing Season" by Death Angel. The album was Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains) and Co-Produced by Rob. Recorded at the Foo's private Studio 606 in Los Angeles, the band was honored (to say the least) to get a personal invitation from Dave Grohl himself (the studio is not open to the public). The experience was yet another opportunity for Rob to collaborate and study the production / recording techniques of masters. The tour that followed had the band on the road for nearly 2 years performing in the US and overseas. Rob is now back home writing new material for both Death Angel and his own solo music.
