Sarah Tomak - Biography

In a male dominated rock world, Sarah Tomek stands as a rhythmic anomaly. Sarah’s dynamic style enhances an impressive understanding of musical arrangement and the compositional process, giving her an original image and competitive edge that most drummers don’t see in a lifetime of playing.Born and raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Sarah Tomek culls her rich background from her father, whose own music was an inspirational force in her life. Sarah began her drumming career in her early teens, becoming a club staple at world famous venues such as The Stone Pony. By the time she was 20, she was already well known as a recording studio veteran, fusing the stylistic thunder of John Bonham and Adam Deitch with the bebop styled groove of Art Blakey and earning a valued reputation amongst some of rocks biggest names. This reputation has lead to her playing with various rock legends like Lance Larson (Lord Gunner) as well as mega stars like Jon Bon Jovi.Sarah can be seen pounding the drums all along the Hudson and becoming a mainstay at Pianos, The Mercury Lounge, and The Bitter End. She has also logged countless miles on the road, playing dates all over the United States and Europe, as well as main stages at the prestigious SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas and the CMJ Festival in New York, New York. Sarah recently wrapped up a European tour with New York's Lez Zeppelin, who Spin Magazine has labeled “the most powerful all-female rock group in rock history.” Sarah can also be seen playing with some of the tri-state area’s best up and coming bands, including New Jersey’s Glen Burtnik, Memphis born Gedeon Luke, and New York's Bebe Buell.
