Andrea HowlandPraised for her “shimmery, bell-like” soprano and “flexible, plangent sound,” Andrea Howland took first place at the 2013 Heafner-Williams Vocal Competition in Linconton, NC. She recently appeared as Beth in Mark Adamo’s Little Women with Opera Breve in Texas, Serafina in Il Campanello with Capitol Opera Raleigh and as a member of the ensemble at North Carolina Opera. In November, she will perform the role of Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with Mosaic Arts in Statesville, NC. Other roles include Papagena at Appalachian State Univeristy and Zerlina in Don Giovanni with the Oklahoma Opera and Musical Theater Company, as well as Despina in Cosi fan tutte and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with the American Singers’ Opera Project. She was selected to sing the role of Miss Up-Down in John Billotta’s award-winning short opera Quantum Mechanic at the 2009 National Conference of the Society of Composers, Inc. She holds degrees in Vocal Performance from Appalachian State University and Oklahoma City University and has sung in concert with the Taos Opera Institute and the Vancouver International Song Institute. Currently, she resides in Durham, North Carolina and sings in the chorus and outreach with North Carolina Opera.
