Grant Kempster - Biography

Born in Aylesbury in 1973 and raised in Leighton Buzzard, Kempster had a long-running interest and love for film and comic books from an early age. By 13 he had handmade over 50 comics based on his own characters as well as ones from film and TV (including Transformers, Thundercats and, bizarrely, Rambo) and by 16 was working in a video store. It was here, at what would become a Blockbusters franchise, that he became fluent in movies both good and bad. Over three years he watched everything he could, which would put him in good stead for his future. After attending a Graphic Design course at Dunstable College, Kempster found work as a studio manager in an advertising firm, a position he held for almost five years. During this time he would regularly contribute to Radio 1 via fax under the pseudonym Film Anorak, leading him towards his next place of employment, Visual Imagination. While initially Kempster worked in the graphics department, at the beginning of 2000 he spread his wings as a freelance writer, penning film and DVD reviews while working as an assistant editor on Ultimate DVD magazine. In 2001 he got married to long-term girlfriend Sonya with whom he's since had two children, Jacob and Noah. In 2004 Grant took on editorship of Film Review magazine, leaving in 2006 to concentrate on revamping Ultimate DVD (now simply Ultimate). Kempster left Visual Imagination in August 2006 to work on a range of TV and film writing projects. After a chance meeting at a London pub, Kempster scored his first acting role in Christian Dines' independent film, KillingTime in December 2006. A brief uncredited role in the crime epic Rise of the Footsoldier followed in January 2007. Kempster is currently working on an 'aternative' romantic comedy with a London-based producer.
